The opening moments gave no indication of what was to follow.

Sedgley looked nervous and ill at ease and the much bigger Fylde pack was in control, pinning Park inside their own 22.

The defence held, however, and Sedgley finally broke out to score on their first visit to Fylde territory, stand-off Dominic Kohler slicing through for a try near the posts.

Moments later, Fylde dropped the ball on their own 22 and centre Adam Glover picked up for a simple try. Danny Harrison converted both and Sedgley led 14-0.

With the home side well on top, Kohler produced another piece of magic to set up the speedy Nathan Settle for a try. Settle also scored the fourth try, a superb individual broken-play run from 35 metres. Harrison's conversion gave Sedgley a 26-0 half-time lead.

With the result already beyond doubt, the second half was less than sparkling.

Fylde held the upper hand in the pack, though Sedgley - and notably Jonathan Whittle and Ben Reading - battled for every ball and every inch of ground.

Behind the forwards Fylde lacked the pace or skill to take advantage.

Sedgley were starved of the ball for long periods and were below their best when they did get their hands on it. Even so, some accurate handling brought a try for Chris Hobbs wide out on the right.

From the restart kick, Sedgley's botched attempt to run the ball from deep resulted in a converted try for the visitors, but Park hit back at once when Kohler's run was well supported by Number 8 Reading.

Harrison's conversion stretched the lead to 38-7 and further tries were scored by Nicky Edge, who won the race following a kick ahead, and by Adam Glover from about five centimetres. Substitute Dave Morris converted, his first ever points for the club with the final kick of the match.
