COLIN Marrison has a special reasons to hope he keeps his place in the Bury side at Boston United on Saturday.

The best friend of the 20-year-old Sheffield United striker, who joined the Gigg Lane men on a month's loan last week, is midfielder Ian Ross who is currently on loan with the Pilgrims from the Blades.

Marrison, a powerfully built but mobile centre-forward, did well in last Saturday's 3-2 victory over Torquay United setting up another former Bramall Lane youngster Jake Speight for the Shakers' crucial third goal.

"I was disappointed not to get on the scoresheet at the weekend but a win is a win and it was an important one for the club after two defeats," he said.

"I've got a good understanding with Jake as we've played together for years in the Sheffield United youth team, hopefully we'll do well together while I am here.

"I thought the team dug in well after going a goal down and I really enjoyed itt."

The Shakers have six league games to get in during Marrison's four week stay at Gigg and the striker has goals in his sights.

"I'm looking to do well here, another of my mates Billy Sharp did superbly when he went to Rushden & Diamonds last season and now he's bagging them for Scunthorpe a league higher.

"I think my main asset is my finishing, I'm strong, can run at people and when the chances come I'll hopefully stick some away."

Marrison, who has played twice for the Blades' first team this term, can't wait to cross swords with Ross at York Street.

"I've spoken to Ian and he's been telling me all about what it's like at Boston, he's really been enjoying it down there," he added.

"I'll be looking to do well against them so we'll see how it goes."
