LOCAL Thai Boxing gym, GFC Muay Thai, based in Britannia Mill, have added another champion to their ever-growing list.
After winning the UKTBA under 25kg Northern Area Junior title, Luke Phillips becomes not only the gym's latest champion but also, at just nine years old, its youngest.
Luke had his first decision bout against Charlie Kelly from Gladiators gym in the Wirral, already a champion and much more experienced than Luke, on a show in Horwich.
After five very competitive rounds Luke was announced a unanimous winner, all be it by only one point on each of the three judges scorecards.
Chief instructor Darren Phillips said: "Obviously we are very proud of Luke, not just because he has won, but also the manner in which he did it with a very technical performance."
The gym also had four other fighters on the show. Chris Yeomans was stopped in the third round against a heavier and taller opponent, whilst Billy Greenwood won another very close fight in his first decisions bout against a more experienced fighter.
Adult Steve Conlon was stopped in the first after getting caught with a very nasty punch right on the chin, and Dan Bradley won a convincing points victory against Peter Dewhurst from Rage in Preston.
