In their final match of the year, the Bury first team entertained 3Cs, who are probably the strongest team in the North West.

The Bury players found themslves trying to contain opponents graded much higher than themselves, and although the match went the full distance, the home side were never in contention.

Losses by Mick Norris, Bernard Sharples and Jim Litherland gave the visitors a lead they were never likely to surrender, and the only bright spot for Bury was a comprehensive victory on top board by Paul Macklin, whilst Roger Howley, John Grindrod and Keith Evans were unable to make anything of drawing chances.

The Bury Club meets on Monday and Tuesday evenings at Bury Sports Club, and visitors are welcome.
