A GREENMOUNT store has been robbed for the second time in less than a month by copycat raiders.

On Friday evening, two armed men walked into the Co-op Late Shop in Vernon Road and threatened staff with a machete before making off with the contents of the till, amounting to about £100, and a quantity of spirits.

The store was robbed in virtually identical circumstances on January 3 when raiders were armed with a Samurai sword and escaped with £500 worth of cash and booze. In both incidents, the offenders wore balaclava masks and none of the members of staff were harmed.

Detective Sergeant Derek Bamford is investigating whether both robberies were carried out by the same offenders.

The raiders in the latest theft were described as white males in dark clothing, black balaclavas and spoke with local accents. One was 6ft tall and skinny and his accomplice was 5ft 6ins tall and slim.

Anyone with information about either robbery, or knows the identity of the raiders, should contact Whitefield CID on 856 8248 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
