POLICE are warning parents to be vigilant after an abduction attempt on a nine-year-old boy in Radcliffe.

The boy was walking along Dumers Lane towards the town centre at 8.50am on Monday, January 30, when he was approached by a man in a white van.

The man asked the youngster to get into his van, and when the boy refused, began climbing out of his vehicle.

The boy ran away and reported the incident to teachers at Radcliffe Hall Primary School, who contacted the police.

Insp Dave McElroy said: "I do not want to alarm parents or children, but I would advise people to be aware of this man.

"I want to appeal to anyone who has information about him or has seen him driving around in the area to contact police."

The man is described as white with a thin build. He looked scruffy and was wearing a black hat, blue jacket and had a black scarf covering his face. He spoke with a deep voice.

Anyone who recognises the description is urged to contact police on 0161 856 8127 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
