"PREVENTION is better than cure" is the message from two Bury firefighters travelling the borough to educate people on fire safety.

Andy Graham and Andy Sullivan, part of Bury's Community Fire Safety Department based at Bury fire station, visit different communities, including schools and old people's homes, offering a range of services to help increase awareness and reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by fire.

The duo, armed with a laptop and projector, stopped off at Elms Farm Sheltered Accommodation, Elms Close, Whitefield, to deliver a presentation on what residents can do to stay safe and can also arrange free home fire risk assessments with smoke alarms fitted.

If parents are concerned their child is developing an unhealthy fascination with fire, the safety officers can enrol the youngster on their Fire Awareness Child Education course.
