GERMAN midfielder Dietmar Hamann is expected to join Bolton Wanderers.

The 32-year-old, who still has one year left on his contract at Liverpool, is believed to have had talks with Wanderers.

He was due to come to the Reebok last summer until Liverpool's success in the Champions League final earned him a new two-year deal.

Now it appears the German international, who played in the 2002 World Cup final, is surplus to requirements as manager Raphael Benitez looks to bring in new faces.

Hamann could cost Wanderers up to £500,000, but that would be dependent upon appearances. He has been at Liverpool since 1999 and is a popular player and the man for the big occasion.

Gerard Houllier broke Liverpool's transfer record in the summer of 1999 to land Hamann when he paid £8million to Premiership rivals Newcastle United. He joined the Magpies the year before for £5.5 million from Bayern Munich Today Wanderers had no comment to make on a possible deal.
