Last weekend saw another fantastic weekend of racing action, two classics in two days meant that business was busy.

Friday's Oaks was won in emphatic style by the favourite Alexandrova. The Irish raider was heavily backed and went off at a price of 9/4. I thought my money was safe as the filly turned Tattenham corner but a burst of speed up the straight saw her ease to a six length victory which resulted in a six figure payout for yours truly.

Saturday offered punters the perfect opportunity to re-invest their winnings on the Derby. The heavily backed favourite Visindar failed to live up to his pre-race reputation and it was Sir Percy who stole the headlines. The Marcus Tregoning Colt found a blistering turn of foot in the final furlong as he came off the pace to snatch the race by a short-head to 66/1 outsider Dragon Dancer.

With the majority of punters' money on the first two in the betting it was a good result for the bookies, but one lucky punter would have been celebrating following a £5,000 bet on the winner at the early price of 8/1.

There is the small matter of the World Cup kicking off this weekend and unless you have been living on Mars for the past few weeks, you will no doubt be eagerly awaiting the big kick-off.

Punters up and down the country have been going crazy to get on Sven's men and the patriotic pounds have forced the price of England in to 7/1 second favourites to lift the trophy in Berlin on July 9.

I have already taken two separate bets of £10,000 in the outright market as well as plenty of other sizeable amounts which have led to me staring down the barrel of a massive six figure liability if Beckham et al go on to do the business. However, I will be delighted to pay out all my customers who have backed England as I will be cheering them on to victory as much as the next person.

Other well-backed outright selections have included Brazil, who have been popular amongst favourite backers at prices between 11/4 and 5/2. I made the decision on Tuesday this week to go better price than any other bookmakers, chalking the current world champions up at 3/1, which attracted plenty of support from the big hitters.

There has also been good money for all of the leading fancies. Both Germany and Argentina have been popular at 8/1, with France (12/1), Holland (12/1) and Spain (14/1) also well supported.

If England are to realise the expectations of the nation, then they need to get off to a good start against Paraguay tomorrow. They are 1/2 to start with a win, with the draw 9/4 and a shock victory for the South Americans 6/1.

The better value can be found in the correct score market, where 11/2 about a 2-0 England victory is proving a popular selection. Michael Owen is favourite to open the scoring at 7/2 with Crouch, Gerrard and Lampard all 5/1.
