A MAN has been given a 12- month community order after he punched and bit his girlfriend in two “disgraceful”

attacks, a court heard.

Babar Khan, aged 24, of Jasmine Court, Great Lever, was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of assault on Gemma Barratt, aged 23. The couple have since separated.

Michael Maher, prosecuting, told the court that the first attack happened on May 9 last year when the defendant and the victim organised a stay at the Pack Horse Hotel in Nelson Square, Bolton.

Khan grabbed Miss Barrett by the throat, punched her in the face and bit her on the right cheek after returning from a nightclub and finding her on the phone to a friend.

The victim fled the hotel and Khan was arrested at his home the following morning.

The second attack occurred on July 31 when the pair met by chance in Bolton town centre before going back to a house in Deane owned by a friend of the victim.

While at the house Khan punched Miss Barrett in the face, bit her and spat on her.

Judge William Morris said: “These are disgraceful offences.”

Khan was sentenced to a 12 month community order with supervision and ordered to take part in a domestic violence programme.
