It is a measure of the feeling around the Reebok this season that a lot of Wanderers fans were disappointed not to have taken all three points against United on Sunday.

Look how far we’ve come in 2010. At 1-1 with 30 minutes we bring on Mark Davies for Fabrice Muamba. Owen Coyle isn’t thinking about trying to hang on for a point – he wants the win, so he makes an attacking substitution. That would never have happened under previous regimes.

He made the same move in the last match away to Villa and it is refreshing to see. It so nearly paid off as well when we went 2-1 up and should really have tied up the game with Elmander’s chance 10 minutes from time.

The Swede produced another spritely display, although it was frustrating to watch at times – he really should have put away at least one of his opportunities.

That said, he played a vital role in Martin Petrov’s excellent goal.

The Bulgarian had his best performance in a white shirt to date and capped it off in style.

He started the move in his own half, spraying the ball a good 60 yards across the field to Chung-Yong Lee – it was the type of pass Okocha used to send out to Djorkaeff – then ran the length of the pitch to make sure he was there to finish it off with a classy right foot strike.

Great goal, good all round effort and it is the standard we need to be seeing week in week out from the left winger.

Coyle must be absolutely delighted with the two points we’ve picked up in the last three games. I thought that we’d be stuck on five points after Arsenal, Villa and United – but we’ve still only lost one game this season.

We’ve now got what should be considered as three winnable games – West Brom away, Stoke at home and a trip to Wigan. I’d be happy with six points and I think then we can start looking up the table, rather than down.
