OWEN Coyle has warned his players not to let their standards slip.

Wanderers have lost just one of their first six league games, gaining unexpected points against Aston Villa and Manchester United in the last fortnight.

But the manager is determined to keep the pressure to perform firmly on his team as they head into the international break.

“We’ve been playing at a very high standard, not only last weekend but prior to that as well,” he said.

“We came into a tough run of fixtures with Arsenal and Aston Villa away and Manchester United at home and out with us at the football club, I don’t think many people in a wider spectrum would have thought we’d get a single point from those games.

“I think we showed we’re capable of picking up points against the top teams, and truth be told, we should have more.

“The great thing was how positive we were in all those games and we’ll have to take that to West Brom because we know it will be a tough game and that they are absolutely flying. But we feel that if we play to our maximum, it’s a game we can achieve points from.”

Coyle is certainly not underestimating West Brom, having seen the Midlanders upset Arsenal at the Emirates last week.

“I can’t speak on their behalf but along with the result, I think they will have been pleased with the level of performance,” he said. “They showed they have got good footballers, people who are very gifted on the ball, and as much as they have been up and down in the Premier League, that they have Premier League quality.

“They have a few match-winners, people who can do something a bit different, so we’ll have to be tuned into that.”
