A GRANDMOTHER hit a pub regular over the head with a shoe when she joined in a brawl, a court heard.

Paul Jary, aged 37, was in the Victoria Inn, Market Street, Farnworth, when he was set upon by a family who had been on a day-long drinking session, Bolton Crown Court heard yesterday.

David Clarke, prosecuting, said Eileen Taylor, aged 51, of Masefield Road, Little Lever, had been drinking and taking amphetamine with her brother, Stephen Commons, aged 44, of Hesketh Walk, Farnworth, and his then girlfriend, Audra Hallam, aged 30, of Warrington.

At 11pm, Commons charged over and punched Mr Jary several times in the face after mistakenly believing he had bumped a member of the family. Talyor, Hallam and Taylor’s nephew, Adam Commons, aged 23, of Seddon Gardens, Radcliffe, waded in and a brawl began.

Taylor hit Mr Jary several times with a shoe, leaving a 2.5in gash on his forehead which needed five stitches.

Stephen Commons admitted assault and was jailed for 24 weeks, suspended for 12 months. Taylor admitted affray, and received the same sentence, while Hallam and Adam Commons, who admitted affray, received 16 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months with 80 hours unpaid work.
