The big teams get the big decisions – fact.

Wanderers could easily have had two penalties on Sunday at the Reebok – but surprise, surprise, referee Martin Atkinson ruled in favour of the so-called big team Liverpool – despite their current league position.

Jamie Carragher handled Matty Taylor’s cross in the first half and Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who was all over Kevin Davies all afternoon, clearly gave our captain a hefty shove in the back in the second half.

They were both decent shouts for a spot kick and in front of the Kop or in front of the Stretford End, they would have been given – sadly, the Reebok crowd, despite being excellent on Sunday, does not hold the same sway over officials.

Contrast those decisions with the ridiculous “goal” Man United scored at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

It was no surprise to see our old friend Mark Clattenburg making a hash of that particular debacle, although he was possibly let down by his linesman.

Nani’s unfair strike has had the pundits calling for “common sense refereeing” – but I’m sorry, that approach will only lead to more inconsistencies.

The one thing that would settle a lot of the arguments would be a video ref.

I really do think it is only a matter of time before it is introduced – so why not sooner, rather than later? Football is dragging its feet behind tennis, rugby and cricket at the moment – we need to catch up.

Our chairman should be using whatever influence he has within the FA to push for the technology to be used – because when video refs do arrive in the Premier League, they will very much level the playing field between teams like Wanderers and teams like Liverpool and Man U.
