Praise the Lord!

Chris Foy, can you ref us every week?

A “marginal” offside call AND a penalty both in our favour, both in one match, putting Whites well on their way to a deserved victory over Spurs.

The plaudits went to two-goal hero Kevin Davies, but for my money, Fabrice Muamba was instrumental in Spurs' downfall and deserves at least half the credit for Wanderers' first goal, when he robbed the visitors of possession deep in their own half.

The midfielder was much criticised by the pundits for a “needless” challenge on Wigan's James McCarthy two weeks ago.

But Davies' left foot strike from 18 yards, under the watchful eye of England boss Fabio Capello, helped demonstrate just how effective Muamba's combative style can be – keep it up lad!

Our captain's qualities can't have gone unnoticed by the England boss though – I'd love to see the Wanderers legend add to his single cap and line up against France next week.

When we went 3-0 up, thanks to more suicidal Tottenham defending and an ice cool spot kick from Davies, I still wasn't 100 per cent confident that Wanderers would see out the match comfortably.

We still have just one clean sheet this season and if there is one thing Owen Coyle needs to start working on, it is his team's ability to shut up shop.

We were right to go for the second – no one wants to see Wanderers trying to defend a one-goal lead for 60 minutes every week – but when Alan Hutton scored Spurs’ first out of the blue with just 11 minutes left on the clock, it was like someone hit the panic button.

It is at this point that we need someone like Gary Cahill to step up and steady the ship, but he didn't.

Why no one headed the ball clear – or at least closed down Roman Pavlyuchenko – before the Russian volleyed past an unsighted Jussi Jaaskelienen is a question I hope the manager asked at training on Monday morning.

Coyle is right, Wanderers were outstanding as a team in attack, but I have to add, woeful in defence.

Martin Petrov's strike at the death should have been the cherry on the cake not the goal that finally put the game to bed.
