Remember, remember the 20th of November.

Because that was the date that Johan Elmander, with a sublime brace against Newcastle United, confirmed his transformation from zero to hero.

He has been outstanding this season – but until he broke his duck at the Reebok, I wasn’t going to be wholly convinced.

And break his duck he did, in spectacular fashion.

If last week’s wonder goal tamed Wolves then his two clinical finishes on Saturday against the Magpies were the silver lining.

Both strikes demonstrated the composure that the Swede now has in front of goal and his performance as a whole was one of a striker with bags of confidence playing without fear.

He might even have had a hattrick had he not been cruelly replaced by Ivan Klasnic with 10 minutes to go.

I’m going to have to change the name of this column to Deliriously Happy Not-So-Young Fan.

Up until our former captain Kevin Nolan gifted us the lead with an innocuous hand-ball in the box, things had looked pretty even.

But once Wanderers had they lead, they took charge.

Nolan certainly stuck to his word – he didn’t do any celebrating on his return to the Reebok.

He and his comedy sidekick Andy Carroll, whose antics have sadly dominated the front pages more than the back pages of late, will no doubt have found their trip to Bolton a rather sobering experience.

I’m glad Nolan got a good reception at the start, although he may not have enjoyed hearing Wanderers fans chant his name when he gave away the penalty, or later in they game as they gleefully sang, “Nolan, what’s the score?”

Kevin Davies, with two superb penalties and yet another assist, took his tally to the season for six, while Elmander, with eight, sits at the top of the Premier League goalscorers chart.

This makes them the league’s second most potent strikeforce.

The most potent? Well, that’s Nolan and Carroll, but that will be scant consolation for the Geordie pair.
