I suppose it is no surprise that Wanderers were brought crashing back down to earth by Blackpool after last week’s heroics against Newcastle United.

I was getting carried away before the game predicting a 4-0 pasting, but the Seasiders are no mugs, and have produced some of their best displays on the road beating the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle.

We actually played pretty well in the first half, especially in the first 20 minutes.

Johan Elmander looked sharp, putting Kevin Davies through for a decent chance that he really should have buried, early on.

The Swede then produced an instinctive turn and shot from the edge of the box, which went straight at the keeper.

But then we gifted Blackpool the lead with poor marking from a set piece and then did it again after the break.

I’d argue that up until their second goal, it was Wanderers that created more chances.

But then the game opened up and as we pushed forward they had two great opportunities to finish us off.

Luckily, Jussi was at his best to deny DJ Campbell – DJ, by the way, stands for Dudley Junior.

And then, with 30 minutes to go, Owen Coyle proved his worth with attacking substitutions that saw us force our way back into the game.

He brought on Rodrigo Moreno and Martin Petrov and then, 10 minutes later, he brought on Ivan Klasnic and Wanderers laid siege to the Blackpool goal.

Petrov’s goal, his third of the season, was superb, and he will now surely be in the reckoning for a place in the starting XI next week away to his old club Manchester City.

Mark Davies will also be looking to keep his place in the team, after replacing the injured Stuart Holden and producing a man of the match performance.

His goal capped off a fine display, and what a goal – it was just like watching Brazil.
