Awful game, great result.

Be honest – did you stay ’til the end?

It probably wasn’t they way Owen Coyle imagined Daniel Sturridge would make an impact – the manager had surely brought him in to add a touch of guile to Wanderers’ attack.

But there was no trickery about the 21-year-old’s strike – just an awareness and hunger that has been sorely lacking from our forwards in 2011.

The new boy poached a goal from nowhere – thanks to some suicidal defending from the visitors – when the game was all but over.

I left the Reebok feeling elated, but equally cheated out of a good moan about how woeful the Wanderers – both Bolton and Wolves – really were.

The only other bright spark, on a dull, dull night, was Chung-Yong Lee.

As Coyle alluded to before kick-off, Chungy’s return to the Reebok almost felt like Wanderers’ third signing of the transfer window.

It had all started so brightly.

The manager picked an attacking line-up, with Mark Davies and Stu Holden in midfield and the South Korea forward preferred to the lacklustre Martin Petrov.

That central pairing is the combination every Wanderers fan wants to work.

Davies appears to have so much more composure than Fabrice Muamba, who can be a frustrating player to watch.

But for whatever reason, Davies and Holden are yet to click – they are to Bolton what Gerrard and Lampard are to England.

Muamba may look like Bambi on ice, but ironically, he adds balance to the team.

Meanwhile, Whites fans’ patience with Johan Elmander is once more wearing thin.

The Swede had an okay game, and had a decent effort turned round the post by Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in the first half.

But he fluffed a great chance in the second half, and since Christmas, he’s looked like the Elmander of old, that we know and do not love.

So, place your bets now.

I reckon we will see Muamba and Holden in midfield at White Hart Lane at the weekend, and hopefully, Daniel Sturridge up front.

Whatever happens, at least we’ve got back to winning ways.

The last time we won in the league was Boxing Day, when Chung-Yong played his last game for Wanderers before the Asia Cup.

I fancy he is the one player who definitely won’t be losing his place in the starting XI.
