FANS of Neuron No! — one of the two bands formed by former Planets frontman Mike Chadwick — were able to get their hands on a copy of the band’s debut EP at their gig last weekend.

The trio — completed by Chadwick’s former bandmates Martin Roscoe and Robert Bowes — launched their self-titled record at the Dog and Partridge, on Saturday.

“It’s the first taster we’ve done for this new band,” says Mike. “It’s a bit more imaginative, a bit wacky. We recorded it over about a month, although it is quite production intensive — there are a lot of layers and effects that go with it.”

Despite the complexity of the band on record, Mike was not worried about reproducing that sound too faithfully live.

“My favourite bands all do that — they’re all big studio monsters and then live they’re completely different, so it’s almost like you get two versions of each song,” he says.

The EP features four songs by the band, including Neil, Break Your Silence, about the rumours that the moon landings never happened, and Saving The World, “It’s about Live Aid and all that carry on,” says Mike. “They get together, have a big party, raise some money and say, ‘look at us!’ It’s about not really knowing what to think about it — it does make money, but it’s still a bit horrible.”
