QUINTON Fortune has given Sam Allardyce a fitness boost ahead of tomorrow's trip to Charlton.

The South African international gave Wanderers an injury scare when he limped out of Wednesday night's 1-1 draw at Fulham.

But his ankle injury has eased and he is still in the reckoning for the game at The Valley.

A fitness test later today is expected to deternmine whether the former Manchester United utility man continues at left back, where he has impressed in his two appearances since joing the Whites on a free transfer. Henrik Pedersen, who has recovered from an Achilles problem, is on standby after making his first appearance of the summer as a second-half substitute at Craven Cottage.

But Wanderers' assistant manager, Sammy Lee, made it clear that Fortune's injury was not as serious as first thought.

"Hopefully he will be okay but it is an ankle so it is one of those you have to make sure is 100 per cent right," Lee said.

Kevin Davies, who was substituted after just 60 minutes at Fulham, is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up.

l FORTUNE is set to make his international comeback after being named in a 19-strong South Africa squad for the African Nations qualifier against Congo next week. He won the last of his 47 caps in March 2005 before losing his place through injury.
