Lancashire are back at Lord's tomorrow looking for the first piece of knockout silverware since the 1998 NatWest Trophy win over Derbyshire.

The Old Trafford side travelled down to London this morning in readiness for their do-or-die clash with County Championship rivals Sussex in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy.

That 14-man squad includes Bolton pace ace Sajid Mahmood who is back with his county after his exploits with the England Test side.

"I have obviously played at Lord's a few times before, but never in a final," said the former Astley Bridge and Egerton bowler. "I reckon it will be a lot different because of the crowd atmosphere. Lancashire fans are always great with me and I really hope they will be there in their thousands."

Mahmood has played only three C&G games this year, but is expected to be named in a side that could include new Indian signing Kartik Murali after he featured in Andrew Flintoff's benefit game last night.

"I have heard it mentioned about taking a place off a player who has played right the way through a season or competition," Mahmood added. "But if you look at the C&G then I have played three games this season and contributed in each one."

Although the 24-year-old has other things such as the Ashes and the World Cup on his mind, he is determined to make sure he has a county medal to his name.

He said: "I want to be in Australia and the West Indies, but I also want to contribute more to my county. I love playing for Lancs and we have a really strong squad so we should be in a position to add a trophy at the end of the season."

James Anderson made an encouraging return last night as England pipped Lancashire to the post in Andrew Flintoff's benefit Twenty20 game.

Anderson (0-29) bowled four overs for England as Lancs finished just two runs short of England's 185-7.
