WORLD champion boxer Amir Khan insists he would be a Twit not to stop social networking ahead of his showdown with Paul McCloskey.

The Bolton fighter has shut down his Twitter and Facebook accounts to concentrate on training for his WBA light-welterweight defence with the European number one in Manchester on April 16.

He announced he was quitting the sites in a series of tweets in which he said people were telling untruths about him.

Khan tweeted: “Lol woke up n read the silly comments what the wannna be celeb saj mohamed @saj23x wrote about me, an some1 called wino. I dnt even no her.

“Twitters head ache especially when u got wanna be’s. So guys I’m too old for this. Its not fair on me if things come in the paper.

“Even tho nuffins true, I get a lot of grief off twitter, lies become the truth in pples eyes, I don’t need it so I’m deleting my account tc.“ And last of all thankyou so much to all my fans, friends, and pple who support amir khan, I appreciate ur time and efforts writing to me etc.

“I’m going off all social networks, thanx to @saj23x. My personal fbook page is deleted also. If you all wana keep updates go on the official amir khan page. On facebook or visit www.amirkhanworld.

com. Take care.”

Amir, aged 24, told The Bolton News: “I need to focus more on my fight. It can take up a lot of your time.

“You can get hooked on Twitter and Facebook.

I haven’t got time to be arguing or chatting with people on it.

“The two weeks before the fight are crucial and I need to put 100 per cent of my efforts into that.”

Khan has not turned his back on social networking for good.

He added: “It’s just until after the fight then I’ll get back on.”

Bolton comedian Paddy McGuinness quit Twitter in November because he was fed up of people criticising his friends and family.
