A NURSE was airlifted to the Royal Bolton Hospital with serious leg injuries after falling in Rivington.

The 37-year-old woman, who works at the hospital, was with her two children and her mother at Lever Park, Rivington, when she fell down a stony path.

She was alongside the replica of Liverpool Castle by the lower shore of Lower Rivington Reservoir when she fell at around 4.15pm on Monday.

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team’s three ambulances attended immediately and escorted a Lancashire ambulance along the Lever Park track.

The North West Air Ambulance landed nearby and gave the woman, who is from Unsworth in Bury, drugs and gas to ease the pain.

She suffered a lower leg injury, which was splinted before she was stretchered to an ambulance parked nearby.

The woman was driven to hospital by staff from Chorley Ambulance Station.

A total of 20 members of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident.
