A TEENAGER who sparked controversy when she opened a pole dancing business in her parents’ living room is launching a second club in Bolton.

Entrepreneur and fitness fanatic Jess Leanne Norris is set to open a new dance centre in Farnworth if Bolton Council grants planning permission.

Miss Norris and her company, JLN Pole Fitness, which has a centre in Westhoughton, is hoping to take over the old HSBC bank in Market Street, Farnworth.

The 18-year-old said she is opening a second club and launching more pole dancing classes to reach more people in Bolton.

She said: “Surprisingly, there are still a lot of people out there who don’t know about pole fitness and the benefits.

“Some people are travelling a long way to Westhoughton, so we wanted to take the classes to them.”

The teenager says business is booming with other classes, such as street dancing and the latest craze of Zumba, now on offer.

Miss Norris added: “We’ve had to do a lot of work on the new building, which has taken about a month, but we’re almost there and ready to open in a couple of weeks.”

She was just 16 when she bought a pole and taught herself to pole dance, using DVDs and various websites.

Surprised by the positive impact it had on her fitness, she started teaching friends and converted her parents’ second living room into a studio.

Neighbours complained about the number of cars visiting the house, in Wade Bank, Westhoughton, and complained to Bolton Council.

The business became so successful the studio had to relocate to larger premises at the old Gymnasia in School Street, Westhoughton.

The centre was officially opened by Westhoughton councillor David Chadwick and Sam Remmer, from the Pole Dance Community, in 2009.

JLN Pole Fitness runs sessions for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers from Monday to Saturday, with one-to-one tuition also available.
