PEOPLE touched by a baby’s fight for life have raised hundreds of pounds in her honour and to help other families.

The Gilnow Arms in Deane Road, Deane, held a fundraising day on Easter Sunday to give the Martha Care Trust a boost.

The charity, which helps parents and families of seriously ill or injured children, supported the family of Evie-Mae Parker, from Cornwall, who has family in Bolton.

Evie-Mae, aged two, underwent an operation for a brain tumour when she was 10 weeks old. She is now clear of the tumour, but still has regular check-ups.

Little Evie-Mae and her parents, Scott and Emma Parker, attended the event to meet people who dug deep for the cause.

They were delighted when the event raised more than £300 for the charity, which helped to fund expensive shoes Evie-Mae needed for her disabilities.

Evie-Mae’s uncle, Nigel Parker, of Deane Road, said women and men went head-tohead in a tug of war competition and people took part in pool knockout competition.

He added: “The event went really well. Evie- Mae is coming along fine. She is still having treatment and may have to have an operation later to have a plate put in her head.

“People wanted to raise money because I go in the pub and showed people pictures of the baby after her operation last year.”

Evie-Mae’s parents brought pasties up from Cornwall for a pastry-eating contest, won by landlord Mark O’Reilley. Mr Parker also thanked landlady Lesley O’Reilley for hosting the event for the second year.
