NOT everyone was in the Royal party spirit yesterday, although members of Bolton Socialist Club did hold an anti- Royal Wedding bash..
It was a case of out with the Union flags and in with the red, white and green tricolour — the colours of the chartism and socialism movement — at the Wood Street club in the town centre.
As well as enjoying a hot and cold buffet spread, including a cake bearing the slogan “Socialism is for Sharing”, members sang songs by Billy Bragg and Edward Carpenter before settling down to watch the Ealing Comedy classic Passport to Pimlico.
Wendy Pye, from the club, said: “We have been here, as a club, since 1905 so I imagine there have been similar parties to this on Royal occasions in the past.”
