A WARNING has been issued to industrial unit owners after a large skip was set on fire in Breightmet.

Firefghters from Bolton North Fire Station were called to Millfield Industrial Estate, Millfield Road, just before 2am yesterday.

The crew spent around 90 minutes tackling the fire, which is believed to have been started by arsonists.

Watch Commander Graham Banks said: “It was a large skip and it had been burning for a long time.

“We had to take everything out and dampen it down.

“We have put it down to youths because the premises were left insecure and we passed the incident on to the police.

“We’ve had a few of these large skip fires in Bolton recently and I would like to warn the owners of commercial premises that leaving the boundaries of their premises insecure opens up the potential for people to come in and set fire to materials.”

Anyone with information about the fire should call the police on 0161 872 5050.
