A MAN has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of manslaughter.

Drew McGrail, along with his brother, David McGrail, had been accused of murdering 17-year-old Dylan Aaron, who drowned in an isolated fishing pond in Hindley.

They were both cleared of murder at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday — but the jury decided Drew McGrail was responsible for the teenager’s death and he was convicted of manslaughter.

During the three-week trial, the jury heard that after Drew threw or pushed Dylan Aaron into the Deep Pit he issued death threats.

The terrified teenager desperately tried to swim to safety but sank beneath the cold water. Two men tried to save him but were unable to rescue him.

Jailing Drew McGrail, the judge Mr Justice Royce told him: “In my judgement, what you did was cruel, wicked and vindictive.”

Both McGrails, of Lancaster Road, Hindley, had denied murder and the lesser alternative charge of manslaughter.

David, aged 35, was cleared of both charges and also found not guilty of assaulting Dylan’s friend, Daniel Bagnall.
