Motorists are advised to avoid a stretch of the M6 in Wigan after reports a woman had fallen from a bridge.
At 10.15am today, police were called to junction 26 of the M6 after a woman was seen to fall from a bridge.
On arrival, officers discovered the woman in the southbound carriageway.
She has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Inquiries are ongoing.
Both north and southbound carriageways have been closed between junction 25 and 26 and diversions are in place.
