BOLTON Lads and Girls Club Young Leaders Project is counting on residents’ votes to help it secure a £2,000 National Lottery prize.

The educational project is one of 10 to be shortlisted for the Best Education Project category.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club Young Leaders programme gives young people in Bolton the chance to help disadvantaged children and gain leadership experience.

A total of 50 people each year, aged 14 to 18, form a task group that develops a range of holiday activities for other members aged eight to 12.

The charity will go head-to-head with other National Lottery funded projects in the semifinals of The National Lottery Awards 2011.

The winner will receive national recognition on BBC and £2,000 for the project.

Channelle McCauley, young leaders participation development worker, said: “Without our Lottery funding it would have been impossible for the Young Leaders project to get off the ground.

“The money we received has allowed us to give local young people the chance to help disadvantaged children and learn valuable skills, making a huge difference to the lives of young people in our area.”

Voting starts on Tuesday at 9am and ends at noon on June 20.
