A CAMPAIGN which would see emergency life support skills taught in all schools is being backed by Bolton West MP Julie Hilling.

Ms Hilling, pictured, who is a member of the Education Bill Committee, is urging ministers to adopt teaching ELS as part of the national curriculum.

The MP moved this clause in committee but it was not accepted.

Ms Hilling has vowed to continue her campaign and aims to secure a debate in Parliament. She paid tribute to Smithills school in her constituency, which runs a British Heart Foundation Heartstart UK scheme. In France, Denmark and Norway, ELS is already a compulsory part of the curriculum, a number of the states in Australia include it; and in America, it is part of the curriculum in 36 of the 50 states.
