A FASHION store manager is set to scale Africa’s highest mountain in aid of a heart research charity and in memory of a much-loved grandmother.

Dominique Lammas, of Breightmet, will trek up Kilimanjaro with her 18-yearold brother, Jordan, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The trip, which starts on Saturday, will have special significance because their grandmother, Margaret Joyce Lammas, from Bolton, died from heart disease five years ago, aged 72.

Miss Lammas has worked at New Look in Chorley for more than a year and said: “My grandma had a lot of heart surgery and she was really strong to come through it.

“I remember it was a really worrying time for the family and it put a lot of pressure on my dad.”

The 24-year-old has an honours degree in international tourism management from the University of Bolton and aims to pursue a career in retail and fashion.

She said: “If you ever needed someone to talk to and get some advice then you could talk to grandma.”

It has since emerged that heart health problems run in the family because Margaret’s father died from a heart attack and Miss Lammas said her own father, Peter, has also been checked.

The trek, which lasts for 10 days and will involve walking through the rainforest to get to the foot of the mountain which stands at 5,895m, is also a personal challenge for Miss Lammas and her brother.

She said: “One of the hardest things so far has been the fundraising because we have needed to raise £3,800 each to do it.

“We are still raising money and that will continue after we get back.”

This will include a Christmasthemed, smart dress code, funfilled night of entertainment at the Ukrainian Club in Castle Street, Bolton, on Saturday, November 26.

Tickets for the evening, which will include a buffet, stalls, DJ and headline act, Elbowroom The Band, cost £25 and it will be the last-ditch attempt for Dominique and Jordan to reach their fundraising target.
