Bolton Council bosses have been invited to a meeting to explain what has happened to money earmarked to be spent in Horwich.

Horwich Town Coun- cil wrote to Bolton Council to ask where the £90,000 allocated under the District Cen- tre Improvement Fund is. The town council wanted to use the cash, which was given to it by Bolton Council, for new public toilets.

But the money, which included £40,000 car- ried over from 2008 and £50,000, which was expected to be given in April last year, has been swallowed up in a reorganisation of coun- cil budgets.

The town council wrote to Bolton Council chiefs but was not satis- fied with the response and has now invited chief executive Sean Harriss to a future ANSWERS Cllr Kieran McGeehan meeting to discuss the issue further. In his let- ter Mr Harriss pointed out that Bolton Council has had to make £60 million savings and considerable reduc- tions in their capital spend programme.

He said a decision has been made not to allocate funding for new public toilets in Horwich.

Cllr Kieran McGee- han said: “The answer is brief and continues to talk about toilet pro- vision. That was not the question. We want to know about the £90,000 that was avail- able and has been with- drawn.”

Cllr Stephen Rock added: “They have fobbed Horwich off again. I think we still DECISIONS Sean Harriss need an answer to the questions.

“We have had the £40,000 for two years. It was supposed to be for Horwich and they can blame the cuts all they want, but it is from two years ago. The council can still put on fancy entertainment but we cannot have some- where for people to use the toilet.”

A council spokesman said: “We will consider any meeting request that we receive and we are happy to provide additional informa- tion.”

Mr Harriss said: “We have reviewed all our budgets and had to make some difficult decisions because of that. We are no longer able to make resources available on the basis we had previously.”

He added signs had been erected directing people to public toilets in Horwich Library and that the toilets in public hall had been refurbished.
