A MAN was air-lifted to hospital with “serious injuries” after a head-on crash in Wigan Road, Deane, on Saturday.
A black BMW collided with a silver Toyota Corolla just before 12pm on Saturday.
A boy, aged around 10, who was a passenger in the Toyota was also taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.
Police have arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of dangerous driving.
By-standers said they had seen the BMW in the area earlier that day.
Firefighters had to cut the Toyota driver out of his car.
An air ambulance landed in the Stag’s Head car park before later taking the injured driver, aged between 45 and 55, to hospital.
He suffered serious head, neck and back injuries, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Royal Bolton Hospital with a slight head injury, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
Wigan Road was closed in both directions for three hours and re-opened just after 3pm.
Doctors were treating the injured driver at hospital on Saturday afternoon. Police said his injuries were "serious but not life threatening".
