A NURSING home resident died following a fall, an inquest heard.

Dorothy Stephens died at the Mill View Nursing Home in Bridgeman Street, Great Lever, in May this year.

A Bolton inquest into 78-year-old Miss Stephens’ death heard she had been treated at the Royal Bolton Hospital for fractures to her pelvis following the fall at the home.

She returned to the home for nursing care but died a month later.

Her son, Mark Stephens of Oban Grove in Bolton, said the former care worker had been the victim of a bag snatch in a Bolton supermarket two years ago. “She was very distressed about it,” he said, adding that her health had declined from that point.

Consultant pathologist Dr Emil Salmo said Mrs Stephens had died as a result of a clot on her lungs, and bronchial pneumonia as a result of fracturing her pelvis.

The court heard this was consistent with Miss Stephens being immobile following the fall. Recording a narrative verdict Deputy Coroner Alan Walsh said Miss Stephens had died from a “sudden, unexpected event”.
