PATIENTS will be able to find out how many people have been injured in falls and the number of people with pressure ulcers at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The hospital is taking part in a transparency project, which allows patients to monitor its performance.

The first set of figures was posted on the hospital’s website yesterday.

It includes patient and staff feedback and the amount of patients who were injured following a fall and the number of people with pressure sores from the hospital.

The figures for January revealed six patients suffered from pressure sores, but none of the 6,749 patients suffered severe harm after a fall.

Feedback showed patients felt they were given the privacy they needed when examined, were helped with feeding and were satisfied with their care.

But 63 per cent said staff did not always control their pain.

Dee Sissons, director of patient safety and experience and chief nurse, said: “I am very pleased the Royal Bolton Hospital is a pilot site for this transparency project as I firmly believe patients, public and staff have a right to know how we’re doing in terms of safety and patient experience. We are going to use this information to monitor our performance and listen to and learn from what our patients and staff tell us.”

Staff feedback showed 62 per cent of staff were sometimes satisfied with the quality of care they give to patients.

And 54 per cent of staff would recommend the ward they work on as a workplace.
