A SOLDIER’S wife is planning a high school reunion for her husband before he returns to Afghanistan with the Army in October.

Wayne Parr, whose classmates include Bolton comedians Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness, left Mount St Joseph High School, in Farnworth, in 1989.

And his wife, Angela, has now contacted the two famous comedians to see if they want to come along.

She said: “I’ve emailed Paddy, his agent told me that although he is too busy to come along, he sends his best wishes.

“I’m still waiting to hear back from Peter, it would be great if he could make it.”

Mrs Parr is also hoping her husband will get back in touch with his former school friends when he leaves the Army in two years’ time.

Sgt Parr, who serves with the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery, and his wife have four children — Josh, aged 17, Jack, aged 16, Jessica, aged 15, and Joel, aged 10.

Mrs Parr said: “He’s been with the Army for 22 years and he’s lost contact with everyone he went to school with. Hopefully, he can reconnect with some old friends, so that he’s got people to see when he leaves the Army.

He’s not allowed to hang out with my friends!”

Mrs Parr, who lives in Wigan, said that after such a long time her husband is having some trouble reaching his old pals.

Anyone who remembers him, or was in the same year at school is invited to the reunion at the Carbon bar in Bolton town centre on Saturday, May 5.
