A BOOK of prayers written by the people of Bolton is on its way to Fabrice Muamba.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Noel Spencer, added his own prayer to the book before it was passed to Bolton Wanderers yesterday.

Bolton’s town centre chaplain gathered people’s prayers for the Wanderers star last week in the Market Place shopping centre.

Fabrice is still in a serious condition in the London Chest Hospital after collapsing during Wanderers’ FA Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Town centre chaplain, the Rev Les Allmark, said: “There has been a fantastic response from the people of Bolton, whether they are football supporters, fans of different teams or even people who are not interested in football.

“There are more than 500 messages and prayers. Fabrice has so far had a remarkable recovery and the book has progressed from genuine prayers for recovery, into a massive get well soon card from the people of Bolton.”

Doctors yesterday revealed the former England under-21 international had got out of bed for the first time and also been able to eat and watch television, as he continued to make progress.

A statement from Bolton Wanderers said: “Fabrice remains in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital where his condition is serious but stable. He continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery.

“Over the weekend, he has been able to sit out of bed for a short time, watch television and has begun to eat.

“However, he will need to continue to be closely monitored by the medical team at The London Chest for some time.” Cllr Spencer said: “I’m sure that when Fabrice does fully recover, this will be something he will treasure for the rest of his life. It is an expression of the warmth, respect and admiration people have for Fabrice.”
