THE management of the Halliwell UCAN centre is being transferred to Bolton Council.

Bolton at Home previously ran the centre, but the council has pledged to “build on their success”.

Staff want to increase current use of the building and work with residents, community groups and local businesses to ensure the UCAN centre is “used to its full potential”.

Council Leader Cllr Cliff Morris said: “Bolton Council will continue to coordinate the same local facilities and services which benefit the Halliwell community.

“This includes preventing and tackling crime, promoting employment and learning, supporting healthy lives and building community cohesion.

“This includes a selfservice library neighbourhood collection service, which will be initiated as part of the management changes.

“At the same time, we want to support the staff to develop their exciting ideas that can only continue to benefit the residents of Halliwell.”

The changeover follows the stock transfer of housing properties to Bolton at Home in 2010, when it was agreed Bolton Council would ultimately take over responsibility for the centre.
