A 10-YEAR-OLD girl is recovering in hospital after being knocked down by two cars.

The girl was hit by a Hyundai Coupe and a Toyota Yaris as she tried to cross Turks Road, Radcliffe, near the junction with Northlands, at 6.15pm on Sunday. She was treated at the scene by an off-duty firefighter and paramedics, before being taken to hospital.

The girl, who lives nearby, was in a critical condition after suffering head injuries and a broken collar bone.

She remained in hospital last night, where she was awake and talking to her parents.

No-one else was injured in the collision.

Witness Ken Barrington-Lewis, aged 36, who lives in Turks Road, said: “She got hit by one car and then by another. She had a big swelling on her head and she was bleeding.

“There were quite a few people outside, including an off-duty fireman who took care of her until the ambulance and police came. They closed off the road while they treated her.

“The girl’s parents came running down the road when they heard what had happened.”

Police are keen to speak to the driver of a stationary car at the junction of Northlands and Turks Road who may have seen the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4745.
