YOUNG Boltonians will be representing their town when they take part in the Greater Manchester School Games today.
Eight primary schools and two high schools will be competing in the sporting event, which this year has been split into winter and summer games.
Teams taking part in the winter festival after successfully qualifying in local leagues and tournaments are from: St Stephen and All Martyrs CE, Darcy Lever; Horwich Parish CE; St Andrew’s CE Over Hulton; St James CE, Daisy Hill; Eatock, SS Osmund and Andrew’s RC, Breightmet; St Matthew’s CE, Bolton; Claypool Primary in Horwich as well as secondary school Firwood in Tonge Moor and St James CE in Farnworth.
Events include athletics, rowing, rugby union, table tennis, swimming and volleyball.
There will be an opening ceremony at the Regional Athletics Centre in Manchester.
The Greater Manchester School Games was piloted last year and is part of a revival of competitive sport in schools inspired by the London 2012 Olympics.
