SINGING and dancing filled the stage as youngsters celebrated 25 years of their performing school.

The Dawn Dawson Academy of Dance and Stage put on a musical extravaganza to mark its quarter-of-a century birthday.

Dozens of young people performed at The Albert Halls — and also helped raise money for the Mayor’s Charity — on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

And the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Noel Spencer, made sure he attended to show his support.

Dawn Dawson, owner of the academy, said: “I would like to say thank you to the performers, both past and present, the volunteers, the teachers and to everyone involved that made it possible. It was a fantastic few nights and for a great cause.

“The children enjoyed it immensely and it was great to see all their hard work from the past 12 months pay off.

“I loved every minute of it — it would be impossible to pick a favourite bit, although I think the babies stole the show with their Toy Story act.”

The anniversary show is the latest in a long line of charity shows, as the Dawn Dawson Academy has raised more than £60,000 in the past 25 years for the Mayor’s charities.

Miss Dawson said: “I am very lucky to work with children and to be doing a job I love. It’s very rewarding.

“The last 25 years have gone so quickly. We’re always very busy putting on charity shows and travelling the country.”

Pupils past and present, from aged two-and-a-half to adults, put on an energetic performance.

Four-year-old Fhreya Wood said: “I wake up every morning and shout ‘Show time, Mummy!’ I can’t wait to get on stage, I love it!”

The Dawn Dawson Academy of Dance and Stage will hold its 25th Anniversary Reunion Party at the Holiday Inn Bolton on April 14.

People can buy tickets from the academy in Great Moor Street.
