A MAN is “lucky to be alive” after his car crashed into two trees on Crompton Way.
The road was closed for an hour after the smash, at 2.10am on Sunday. The man, in his 20s, is thought to have lost control of the Seat he was driving on the corner of Crompton Way and Almond Street. He veered into a tree on the side of the road opposite the Co-op Funeralcare, spun across the road into another tree, and then swerved back into the middle of the road. A woman who was passing in a taxi saw the crash and dialled 999. Bolton North watch manager Ian Read said: “He is lucky to be alive. He had a seatbelt on and his air bags deployed. I think the air bags saved him.
“It is a notorious bend and he seems to have lost control, hit a tree and then spun out into the road again.”
The man managed to free himself from the vehicle. He was suffering from shock and had a minor head injury and was taken to hospital.
His car was destroyed and there was debris across the road. Police attended the scene and are investigating.
