MIRACLE man Fabrice Muamba has been discharged from hospital and is back home today — exactly one month after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch in which his heart stopped for 78 minutes.

The Bolton Wanderers star’s return to the North West marks an amazing recovery for the 24-year old who collapsed at White Hart Lane during an FA Cup quarter final tie with Spurs.

Last night, Muamba thanked Wanderers fans for their support over the past four weeks and paid tribute to the doctors who saved his life.

He said: “I am naturally very pleased to be discharged from hospital and would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to every single member of staff atThe London Chest Hospital who have played a part in my care.

“Their dedication, professionalism and expertise is simply amazing and I will forever be in their debt.

“I also wish to say thank you to all the many wellwishers who have sent thousands of messages of support.

“Now I am out of hospital, I am looking forward to continuing my recovery and spending precious time with my family.”

Muamba suffered a cardiac in the 41st minute of the match against Tottenham Hotspur on March 17.

Players looked on in horror as they realised their stricken teammate was fighting for his life.

Muamba was clinically dead for 78 minutes before his heart began beating on its own again.

But amazingly, it was revealed last week that tests show no physical reason why the player cannot eventually make a return to the Premier League.

Doctors have inserted an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) just under the former England Under-21 international’s collar bone, which releases an electric charge in the event of heart malfunction.

Yesterday, Muamba was pictured warmly shaking the hands of two of the men credited with saving his life.

On one side, Dr Sam Mohiddin, and on the other Spurs fan Dr Andrew Deaner, who rushed from the stands at White Hart Lane to the aid of the midfielder.

Wanderers manager Owen Coyle said: “It is absolutely fantastic news that Fabrice has been discharged from hospital and everyone at the club is delighted.

“We would also like to add our thanks to the staff at The London Chest Hospital for their care and treatment of Fabrice, which has been outstanding.

“It is important that Fabrice and his family are now given time and space to be together.”
