CHARITIES and community groups in Bolton could be set for a huge tax windfall.

Businesses are being urged to sign up for a charitable giving event at the Reebok Stadium this week.

Companies have been invited to the summit this Friday where they will be urged to use tax breaks to give to local good causes.

It is hoped the event, organised by Bolton West MP Julie Hilling, will help plug the shortfall in funding for charities due to the current economic climate.

Ms Hilling said: “The voluntary and community sector is being seriously hit by savage cuts inflicted by this government. Times are very difficult for charities and community groups who perform such an invaluable service to our community.

“I urge businesses, whether large or small, to come along to the event and find out how they can get involved — and to see how contributions of time or money can really help to transform the lives of local residents.

“Times are very difficult for charities and community groups who perform such an invaluable service to our community.”

More than 50 businesses have already signed up for the event.

The “Benefiting Business, Benefiting Bolton”

event is on April 20 from 2pm at the Premier Suite at the Reebok Stadium.
