THE multi-million pound Bolton One complex is just days away from housing many of the borough’s health services.

The health, leisure and research complex, which cost £31 million, has been created by a partnership between the University of Bolton, Bolton Council and NHS Bolton.

Over the coming weeks, several vital health services will move into the Moor Lane centre, including breast screening, which was formerly based at Pikes Lane and non-urgent orthopaedic, musculo-skeletal and rheumatology services from Lever Chambers. Thoracic outpatients and non-urgent musculoskeletal outpatients will also move from the Royal Bolton Hospital; along with podiatry biomechanics, which is creating special insoles for shoes, which will move from Lever Chambers and the Royal Bolton Hospital, and podiatry from Lever Chambers.

A number of other outpatient clinics are also due to move from the hospital to Bolton One.

Bolton One will have radiological and therapy support for these services and a GP practice will also be based there.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Lesley Doherty said: “It is good for patients and staff to have these services together in a modern setting.

“It also means that some of these patients will no longer have to come to the hospital for their treatment.”

Bolton One also has a competition standard, eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool,.

A community gym, dance studio and fitness suite also form part of the leisure complex.

The university is providing a sports hall, climbing wall and a research centre.

Health services will close on the day they move.

Musculoskeletal therapy, rheumatology and podiatry biomechanics will move on May 14, podiatry on May 21, musculoskeletal services, non- urgent musculoskeletal surgical outpatients and some breast screening on May 28 with thoracic outpatients and general outpatients clinics on June 11.
