BURGLARS are being warned that a police taskforce will be out to arrest them every morning.

Officers are launching a crackdown on burglary and car Crime as resources are put into tackling those areas.

The crackdown is in addition to work already carried out to investigate and reduce the number of burglaries in Bolton.

It will come into force on June 1 — and police are appealing for local communities to act as their eyes and ears.

The Bolton neighbourhood taskforce will review burglary and vehicle crime each morning and criminals who live nearby will be visited to see if they are responsible.

Sgt Scott Brady said every time officers leave their police stations, they would be going to arrest criminals.

He added: “The more good quality intelligence we have, the more chances we have of being successful and supporting residents.

“We will be seeking out offenders and doing house to house inquiries. Crimes will be analysed and patterns will be identified.

“We often find people have noticed things going on in their communities, such as someone bringing different bikes home for the last six months, but no-one has told us about it. The need for public support is massive. We need them to be our eyes and ears.”

In June last year, the neighbourhood task force set up Bolton Residents Against Drugs (BRAD).

More than £2 million worth of drugs has been seized from Bolton’s streets up to the end of March this year.

Police have also taken more than £700,000 from suspected criminals and officers have carried out 271 drug raids and arrested 267 people on suspicion of a variety of offences.

BRAD is expected to continue, but will be carried out by other departments.

Police are also reminding people to do all they can to protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime by ensuring they lock their doors and windows.
