THE town has thrown its support behind Bolton Wanderers who have one last chance to save their Premier League status with victory at Stoke.

All eyes are on the Whites as they battle to stay in the top flight.

Nothing but a victory at the Britannia Stadium and a loss for Queens Park Rangers at Manchester City will save Wanderers from the drop.

Celebrities, MPs and fans are all praying for a victory tomorrow.

Boxer Amir Khan said: “They need to do it for the fans, for the manager, for the chairman and for everyone.

“They have the belief and the opportunity to become heroes, so they need to go out there and become heroes for Bolton.”

Comedian Dave Spikey said: “I think on balance we absolutely deserve to stay up, bearing in mind the massive setbacks of the season where we’ve had two of our top-class players missing and then had to deal, magnificently, with the trauma of Fabrice Muamba’s collapse and miraculous recovery.

“The team deserves it, Owen Coyle deserves it and the town deserves it.”

Comedian and actress Fiona Allen said: “Bolton was my first ever live football match at Burnden Park, and ever since they have been close to my heart. They have been unlucky with injury so fingers crossed they stay up.”

Celebrity fan Vernon Kay, who is a trustee of the club’s charity wing, the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, took to Twitter, saying: “If BWFC go down, the impact it will have on the charity front will be devastating to the local community. Good projects will suffer.”

BBC Radio Five presenter Victoria Derbyshire added: “Stoke away, meanwhile, QPR have to do something unbelievably against Manchester City — it’s a nightmare to predict.”

Former Lancashire County Cricket Club player and avid Wanderer Mike Watkinson said: “It reminds of a match in 1998 when we needed to beat Chelsea to stay up.

“I was playing in a match at Old Trafford cricket ground and Nat Lofthouse was at the ground too, as he couldn’t bear to watch the football!

“It didn’t work out well that day so I hope it’s better this time.”

Leading political figures will also be keeping their fingers crossed. MP for Bolton West Julie Hilling said: “As well as being of great importance to their huge following locally, our community needs a Premier League football team for supporting the local economy and jobs in our area.

“Bolton Wanderers Community Trust also performs sterling work locally for charities and voluntary groups, which is invaluable for these organisations. Along with other fans locally, I’ll be rooting for Wanderers this weekend.”

David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East, added: “We beat Stoke 5-0 earlier this season and Wanderers are playing well away.

I’m hopeful that they can do it and I think they will do it. They have got everything to play for.”

Young fan Myles Johnson, aged 14, who is pictured on the front page, believes the Whites have what it takes to survive on Sunday.

He said: “We have had a shocking season and its down to the players and the manager.

“I was a bit down last week as I thought we would be able to beat West Brom. We need to improve all over the pitch next season. I don’t really want Coyle to stay.”

Myles, whose favourite player is Mark Davies, believes Bolton will be able to beat Stoke 2-0 with a 2- 0 David N’gog inspired win.
