A FAILING care home has been warned it could be closed if standards are not improved.

Concerns were raised following a damning, unannounced inspection of Parkview Nursing and Residential Home in Chorley New Road by care home watchdogs.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors flagged up a catalogue of failures and issued a formal warning to Jewelglen Limited, which owns the home, to protect the safety and welfare of the residents.

Owner Mahendra Raja insists concerns have now been addressed.

The home cares for up to 41 residents with physical difficulties.

Inspectors found systems were not in place to assess and monitor the quality of care and service.

Care plans for residents were found to be identically worded and scored and were not be reviewed regularly.

These are supposed to ascertain the patient’s risk in terms of nutrition, falls and their mental health.

No evidence was found to show how the home had acted upon satisfaction surveys completed by people using the service and their relatives.

Care homes are expected to show users how they have improved on any concerns raised.

Inspectors were unable to find any records of staff appraisals and a formal process to supervise staff was not in place. No risk assessments were thought to have been carried out for health and safety and fire prevention within the home.

Adam Brown, CQC Regional lead for Yorkshire and Humberside, said: ”This warning sends a clear and public message that Jewelglen Limited needs to address this issue as a matter of urgency or face serious consequences.

“Our inspectors will return to Parkview Nursing and Residential Home in the near future and if we find the provider is not making the required progress we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to protect the people who live there.”

Management need to improve the home by July 16 or CQC can in the most serious case cancel the service or suspend it.

A financial penalty could be issued or the provider could be prosecuted if standards are not improved.

Mr Raja, the owner of the home, said: “We have taken a positive approach to the CQC’s inspection.

“We have addressed all of the concerns already with help. We are expecting everything to be in order by the next inspection.”
