“AS you see, we’ve still got it,” Ian Brown told 70,000 fans at Heaton Park.

And after The Stone Roses’ triumphant three nights of shows, it’s clear that they have.

As reunion shows go, they don’t get much bigger — or more eagerly anticipated — than The Stone Roses’ homecoming gigs.

From the minute they swaggered on stage and launched into I Wanna Be Adored, the band could not have said it more loudly or proudly — not only were they glad to be back but back with a glorious return on home soil.

It’s more than 20 years since they released their debut self-titled album. But to the 210,000 fans who watched them at Heaton Park on Friday, Saturday and last night, the material sounded as fresh and exciting as it did in 1989.

The band played The Stone Roses in its entirety, with just a smattering of tracks from The Second Coming.

Reni was in his bucket hat, Ian Brown had his trusty tambourines and Mani and John Squire played out of their skins — all the old magic was there and sounded as good, if not better, than it did 20 years ago.

Sally Cinnamon, I Am The Resurrection, Waterfall and a 15-minute version of Fools Gold were awe-inspiring.

Huge screens meant no one missed a second of the action, and the cameras panning over the crowd provided a glimpse of the sheer scale of the massive event.

In typical Roses style, there was no encore, but a huge fireworks display erupting overhead was the perfect ending to the perfect reunion gig by arguably Manchester’s greatest ever band.

Let’s just hope it’s not their last.
